My God time looks like...

My God time tends to look different from season to season. And I think that’s more than just “okay”; I think variety is excellent.

In the current season, my God time usually involves me waking up to grab my phone off of the night stand. I’m borderline addicted to my tech, but I’m making improvements. I used to grab my phone and wake up to twitter or emails or news headlines.  Now, the first thing I do in the morning is launch “You Version” so I can knock-out my Bible Reading Plan.

I don’t like to think of my God time as something that I need to “knock-out”; but then again, my days get so busy that if I don’t make time for it in the morning, there won’t just magically be time for it later.

So I read my daily reading, then I say some prayers. I invite God to be a part of my day, I talk to him about what I have going on (a Big meeting, or stressful work, etc.). Then I hop out of bed and go make breakfast.

I try to stay aware of God throughout the day; I try to stay focused on his presence even when I’m doing other things. I like to play worship music while I’m cooking breakfast. And I’ll sprinkle prayers in when I think of something that I want to tell God about.

In previous seasons, my God time had much more to do with worship and prayer. This season I’m more focused on reading the word. Both have been hugely rewarding.

Regardless of how you connect best with God, I’d encourage you to make your time with Him more intentional. Set an alarm, write it in your calendar, or do it with a group. There’s nothing quite like connecting with the Lord on a personal and daily level.
