Lessons learned in transition...Lesson 3

This post is part three of an ongoing series about the lessons I have learned in transition.

If you missed the first lesson you can find it here.
If you missed the second lesson you can find it
here.

Lesson Three: Tell the same story at all times.

Tell the same story.

This is a lesson that I head Brady Boyd teach on quite a bit. When you are taking notes in a session you may or may not use them one day, this was one session I read over and over.

When the decision is made to transition and you meet with your leaders decide on what story you are going to tell when people ask.

If it is a different story being told people will always wonder what is the truth really is. It will affect your character or the character of your leaders.

17 The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.
— Proverbs 18:17 NIV

Be on the same page. I heard a speaker say one time "Honor is the currency of elevation." In transition the most important thing to remember is honor. Always choose honor. This goes for both parties involved.

If you are a senior leader work hard to honor your staff who are leaving or transitioning. Honor their story and how they have added value to you or your organization. There is always something to honor in those transitioning.

If you are someone who is leaving it is vital to your long term success to honor those in authority over you in every season of your life, especially when you are leaving an organization or ministry. Honor the great moments and investments that your leaders have made in your life, the freedom or opportunities they have given you to grow and learn.

If both parties will work towards forgiveness and healing and honor, they will tell the same story.

Telling the same story is part of stewarding well the anointing and calling on your life to lead people.

Writing the same story requires focusing on communicating honor. If you will focus on communicating honor, the story you share will cause everyone's gracious character and integrity to be put on display for the world to see.

35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
— John 13:35 NIV
